Chainsaw is a Melee Mechanical weapon that can be purchased from and sold to Big Al's Gun Shop, where it is the most expensive Melee weapon available.

The Chainsaw was one of the items available at the launch of Torn on 15 November 2004, having been introduced during the Torn City Beta. [1]

The Chainsaw counts as a Scary weapon during the yearly Trick or Treat Halloween event.

The Chainsaw is the highest damaging, least accurate, and least stealthy Mechanical weapon in Torn. It is also the only mechanical weapon to not have the Shock Weapon Bonus.

Usage

The Chainsaw is commonly used during Halloween's Trick or Treat event due to its affordability compared to other Scary weapons.

Due to the low number of Mechanical weapons in the game, the Chainsaw is often used to get the 1,000 Mechanical finishing hits for the War Machine honor, especially as the Taser's and Cattle Prod's low damage make it difficult to consistently get finishing hits.

Obtaining

The Chainsaw is most commonly obtained as a purchase from Big Al's. It can also be found through city finds.

The Chainsaw can be found as a result of the following crimes:

Burglary:

  • Residental:
    • "Farmhouse" (quantity 1)
    • "Manor House" (quantity 1)
    • "Secluded Cabin" (quantity 1)
    • "Toolshed" (quantity 1)
  • Industrial:
    • "Farm Storage Unit" (quantity 1)
    • "Old Factory" (quantity 1)
    • "Slaughterhouse" (quantity 1)

1,000 Chainsaws will be restocked at Big Al's after being sold out. The amount of time before a restock occurs is half the time it took the item to sell out, rounded to the nearest 15 minutes.

Chainsaws can be bought from other players through the Item Market, Bazaars, or Trades, but as Melee weapons do not stack they must be purchased one by one, making it time consuming to buy in bulk.

As Mechanical weapons cannot be obtained from weapon Caches, there is currently no way to get a Chainsaw that has a Weapon Bonus, is over 100% quality, or is Yellow, Orange, or Red quality.

Buffs

Players can gain Weapon Experience on Chainsaws once the "CBT3870 Bachelor of Military Arts and Science" Education course has been completed. Chainsaws, along with all melee weapons, receive a 10% damage bonus from the "Drunken Master" 3* special at Pubs and Restaurants, and a 2% damage bonus from the completion of the "HIS2170 Medieval History" course.

The Chainsaw is affected by all universal buffs such as the 1% damage boost from completion of the "BIO2350 Evolution" course or the +3 accuracy from the "Seasoned Poacher" 10* Zoo special.

Historical Notes

The Chainsaw saw heavy use in the early days of the game due to being the highest damaging melee weapon at the time. Its usage was especially high after the Samurai Sword was moved from Big Al's to Mexico, as most players at the time were not a high enough level to fly.

All Chainsaws used to have the same damage and accuracy stats. Unique stats for each Chainsaw were revealed in a December 2015 update. [2]

The circulation of Chainsaws has historically spiked every October since the release of the Trick or Treat event due to their status as an affordable Scary weapon.
