Leather Vest is a Defensive item that can be purchased from and sold to Big Al's Gun Shop. The Leather Vest is the cheapest body armor in the game.

The Leather Vest was one of the items available at the launch of Torn on 15 November 2004, having been introduced during the Torn City Beta. [1]

The Leather Vest has both the lowest base armor and the lowest overall coverage rating out of any body armor.

The Leather Vest is equipped in layer 3 of the torso slot. [2] It can be equipped with any clothing but will be unequipped by all other torso armor. The Leather Vest will layer over tighter clothing items that occupy layers 1 or 2 such as the Tank Top and will layer under outerwear clothing items that occupy layers 4 or 5, such as the Trench Coat.

Usage

The Leather Vest sees very little use due to its extremely low stats. While it is the most affordable body armor in the game, other body armors, such as the Full Body Armor have far better stats while still being very affordable.

Obtaining

The Leather Vest is most commonly obtained through crimes. It can also be purchased from Big Al's and be found through city finds.

The Leather Vest can be found as a result of the following crimes:

Shoplifting:

  • "Big Al's Gun Shop" (quantity 1, guards on break)

Burglary:

  • Commerical:
    • "Postal Office" (quantity 1)
  • Industrial:
    • "Farm Storage Unit" (quantity 1)
    • "Fertilizer Plant" (quantity 1, requires Lockpicks)

1,000 Leather Vests will be restocked at Big Al's after being sold out. The amount of time before a restock occurs is half the time it took the item to sell out, rounded to the nearest 15 minutes.

Leather Vests can be bought from other players through the Item Market, Bazaars, or Trades, but as Defensive items do not stack they must be purchased one by one, making it time consuming to buy in bulk.

Buffs

Leather Vests, along with all armor, gain a 20% defensive bonus from the "Tailoring" 10* special at Clothing Stores. The "Regulation" 7* special at Private Security Firms will give a 25% armor mitigation bonus if a player wears a full set of leather armor but equipping virtually any combination of non leather armor without the bonus would result in a higher defense rating due to the leather armor set's low stats.

Historical Notes

All Leather Vests used to have the same defensive stat. Unique stats for each Leather Vest were revealed in a December 2015 update. [3]
