At the time of its release, the Scalpel became the most practical weapon to use for maximizing the possibility of stealthing an Attack due to having the highest possible stealth rating for a damaging weapon in the game, as well as higher base damage and accuracy compared to the closest weapons, the Pen Knife and Poison Umbrella.

Having a Scalpel in a player's inventory is required for the Extracting step of ID Badge projects.

Like all other tools, Scalpels are not lost upon use.
