Police Vest is a Defensive item that can that can be purchased from and sold to Big Al's Gun Shop.

The Police Vest was one of the items available at the launch of Torn on 15 November 2004, having been introduced during the Torn City Beta. It can be equipped in the body slot. [1]

The Police Vest is equipped in layer 3 of the torso slot. [2] It can be equipped with any clothing but will be unequipped by all other torso armor. The Police Vest will layer over tighter clothing items that occupy layers 1 ir 2 such as the Tank Top and will layer under outerwear clothing items that occupy layers 4 or 5, such as the Trench Coat.

Usage

The Police Vest sees very little use due to its low stats. While it is very affordable, other body armors, such as the Full Body Armor have far better stats while still being very affordable.

Obtaining

The Police Vest is most commonly obtained as a purchase from Big Al's. It can also be found through city finds and given as a mystery gift from the Wheel of Lame.

The Police Vest can be found as a result of the following crimes:

Burglary:

  • "Dockside Warehouse" (quantity two)
  • "Self-Storage Facility" (quantity one)

A Police Vest can be found with a Taser and Smoke Grenade one time per player as a unique result for the "North Side" Graffiti subcrime when the player has reached at least reputation 4 in the North Side.

1,000 Police Vests will be restocked at Big Al's after being sold out. The amount of time before a restock occurs is half the time it took the item to sell out, rounded to the nearest 15 minutes.

Police Vests can be bought from other players through the Item Market, Bazaars, or Trades, but as Defensive items do not stack they must be purchased one by one, making it time consuming to buy in bulk.

Historical Notes

Prior to an August 2014 armor update, the Police Vest was called "Riot Gear." [3] This was likely changed so there wouldn't be any confusion when the Riot Armor set was released. The Riot Armor set was not released until late 2021, but has existed in the game's code since 2013.

All Police Vests used to have the same defensive stat. Unique stats for each Police Vest were revealed in a December 2015 update. [4]

An early item image for Riot Gear showed a person fully clad in armor, including a helmet and riot shield. At the time of this image, players only had one slot for body armor. This item image was changed to a vest in July 2012, two years before the item's 2014 name changed to Police Vest.
