MP3 Player is a Special item that can be acquired through shoplifting. It can be sold to (but not purchased at) the Super Store.

The MP3 Player was one of the items available at the official launch of Torn on 15 November 2004, having been introduced during the Torn City Beta. [1]

Usage

Listening to an MP3 player converts energy to happiness. There is no usage cooldown and there are three different options for how much energy can be used.

MP3 Player Usage [2]
Action Energy Used Happiness Gained
Listen to a Song 1 energy 12-18 Happiness
Listen to an Album 3 Energy 42-63 Happiness
Listen to an Audio Book 5 Energy 80-120 Happiness

The MP3 player is an option to spend extra energy that is not divisible by five or ten which would otherwise be unused. These bits of energy can be obtained from drinking energy drinks while in a faction that has the energy drink perk in the Voracity branch, use of Book : Higher Daddy, Higher!, or from using the one or three energy options on an MP3 Player, CD Player, Television, or Game Console.

Using the MP3 Player is optimal only for players with extremely low battle stats. If a player uses the MP3 Player, the 5 energy "Listen to an Audio Book" gives the most happiness per energy spent.

Obtaining

The MP3 Player is most commonly obtained through crimes. In Crimes 1.0 the MP3 Player can be obtained through the "Electronics Stall" shoplifting crime at any Crime Experience level. It can also be found through city finds and can be traded between players.

Historical Notes

The MP3 Player used to be classified as an Electronics item before the Electronics category was discontinued on 1 April 2024. Prior to an update in June 2021 that changed several Electronics items, the MP3 Player had no use.

In the past there was a Market Stall shoplift crime explicitly for MP3 Players. [3] It was consolidated into the "Electronics Stall" shoplift crime.
