Hard Drive

Hard Drive is an Other item that can be acquired through shoplifting. It can be sold to (but not purchased at) the Super Store.
The Hard Drive was one of the items available at the official launch of Torn on 15 November 2004, having been introduced during the Torn City Beta. [1]
Usage
The Hard Drive currently has no use outside of being sold. As it can be sold to the Recycling Center, no use is planned for the item in the foreseeable future.
Obtaining
The Hard Drive is most commonly obtained through crimes. In Crimes 1.0 the Hard Drive can be obtained through the "Computer Stall" shoplifting crime. It can also be found through city finds and can be traded between players.
In Crimes 2.0 the Hard Drive can be found as a result of the following crimes:
- "Search the Junkyard" (quantity 2)
- "Super Store" (quantity 1, 3 (requires Torn City Times for 3))
- Residential:
- "Tool Shed" (quantity 1, requires Lockpicks)
- "Suburban Home" (quantity 1)
- Commercial:
- "Dentists Office" (quantity 1)
- "Market" (quantity 2, requires Jemmy)
- "Postal Office" (quantity 2-3)
- "Self-Storage Facility" (quantity 1)
- "Recruitment Agency" (quantity 2-3)
- Industrial:
- "Foundry" (quantity 1)
- "Paper Mill" (quantity 1, requires Skeleton Key)
- "Printing Works" (quantity 1)
A Hard Drive, along with two eCPU, five CPU, and a HPCPU can be found one time per player as a unique result when using the "Bury" option for the "Old Furniture" Disposal crime.

Historical Notes
The Hard Drive used to be classified as an Electronics item before the Electronics category was discontinued on 1 April 2024.
In the past there was a Market Stall shoplift crime explicitly for Hard Drives. [2] It was consolidated into the "Computer Stall" shoplift crime.
