Jacket is a Clothing item that can be acquired via the "Jacket" shoplift crime. It is the most expensive item (by sell price) that can be obtained from Clothes Shop shoplifting. It can be sold to (but not purchased at) TC Clothing.

The Jacket was one of the items available at the official launch of Torn on 15 November 2004, having been introduced during the Torn City Beta.

The Jacket equips on layer 4 of the torso slot. The Jacket will layer over body armor and tighter clothing items that occupy layers 1 or 2 such as the Tank Top. The Jacket will layer under outerwear clothing items that occupy layer 5, such as the Trench Coat.

Obtaining

In Crimes 1.0 the Jacket can be obtained through the "Jacket" shoplifting crime. It can also be found through city finds. The Jacket can be traded between players.

The Jacket can be found as a result of the following crimes:

Search For Cash:

• "Search the Cemetery" (quantity one)
• "Search the Fountain" (quantity one)
• "Search the Subway" (quantity one)

Shoplifting:

• "TC Clothing" (quantity one)

Burglary:

• "Apartment" (quantity one)
• "Barbershop" (quantity one, requires Lockpicks)
• "Bungalow" (quantity one)
• "Dockside Warehouse" (quantity one)
• "Manor House" (quantity one)
• "Mobile Home" (quantity one)
• "Old Factory" (quantity one)
• "Postal Office" (quantity one)
• "Tool Shed" (quantity one, requires Lockpicks)
• "Truckyard" (quantity one)

A Jacket can be found with a Lawyer Business Card one time per player as a unique result for the "Cottage" Burglary subcrime when a player has a Window Breaker in their inventory.

Historical Notes

Prior to a 2014 update allowing clothing to be equipped, the Jacket had no use outside of being sold. The Jacket could not be equipped concurrently with a piece of body armor until an update on 12 December 2017 that allowed clothing to be equipped with armor.

Trivia

The Jacket holds the current record for the highest circulation of any item in Torn at over 160 million jackets in the game as of March 2023. This is due to Jacket shoplifting being popular as it cannot send players to the Jail or Hospital. It is also a common item to collect, with some players owning millions.
