Derby Shoes were once worn by hunters and sportsmen, but today they are suitable for occasions both formal and informal. The Derby is an open laced shoe, meaning the quarters are sewn on top of the vamp, which makes them easy to put on. If you neither know nor care what that means, you may be interested to learn that the Derby was invented for the 19th Century Earl of Derby, who was so fat he had trouble putting his regular shoes on. And if that isn't a legacy, I don't know what is.
