Hustling is the eighth Crime released for Crimes 2.0. It is a Fraud crime.
Overview
Hustling contains the following subcrimes:
- Gather Audience Members
- Cornhole
- Snail Racing
- Find The Lady
- Shell Game
- Shill (requires skill level 60)
- Pickpocket (requires skill level 80)
Hustling has players attract an audience, showcase four games, persuade the audience into betting, and intentionally win or lose games to manage the audience's interest.
Each game has a technique level which increases as more bets are successfully won/lost for that particular game. Enhancing one's technique increases betting values for the relevant game.
At skill level 60 a Shill may be enlisted to reduce money loss when intentionally losing.
At skill level 80 a Pickpocket may be enlisted to passively steal money from the audience while the player maintains their attention.
The Crime Enhancer used for Hustling is the item: Megaphone
There are no unique outcomes for the Hustling crime.
Gather Audience Members
"Gather" is a four nerve Hustling subcrime that will attract an audience to play games.
The more people gathered at once, the more difficult it is to attract additional people. If an attempt is successful, one or more audience members will be added to the subcrime tab.
A player will have to manage both the audience's interest in the games and their suspicion. Audience members are more likely to start betting or bet higher amounts once interest increases. Audience members are more likely to stop betting entirely or outright leave as suspicion increases.
Audience members will gain interest when the player loses a bet, demonstrates a game or hypes a game up. Audience members will lose interest and their suspicion will increase whenever the player wins a game.
A betting audience member is indicated by a cash icon above their picture. The more audience members betting at once, the larger the size of the bets.
Some games are preferred by some audience members. When playing an audience member's favorite game, you will see a heart icon above their picture. Playing an audience member's favorite game increases interest gain significantly.
Audience members will leave over time when not playing/promoting any games. They will also leave if suspicion is too high.
Playing Games
Games are two nerve Hustling subcrimes that increase audience members' interest, as well as reward money.
There are four games available, each with their own Technique level indicating how skilled the player is at that particular game. Technique increases by playing a game. It is currently unknown if Technique can decrease.
Increasing a game's Technique increases the audience's betting values.
There's four options while playing games:
- Demo: Demonstrate the game to the audience.
- Hype: Increase audience's interest in a game.
- Losing: Attempt to intentionally lose to increase audience interest. A successful attempt will cost the player the amount bet. A failed attempt will result in a win instead.
