Rate of Fire
For a list of weapon rates of fire, see the main article: List of weapons rate of fire.
Rate of Fire (RoF) is a weapon statistic that defines how many bullets a weapon can fire per turn. It is typically represented as a range, such as 15-25 (9mm Uzi), indicating that the weapon will fire anywhere between 15 and 25 bullets in a single turn. Each value within the range has an equal chance of occurring.
- The minimum value (e.g., 15 in 15-25) is the least number of bullets a gun will fire in a turn.
- The maximum value (e.g., 25) is the most bullets that can be fired in a turn.
9mm Uzi has clip size is 30. If Uzi fired 25 bullets and only has 5 bullets left, it can still fire those 5 bullets even if its RoF minimum is 15. Less than minimum ammo in the clip does not prevent firing due to insufficient bullets to meet the lower bound. Weapon simply fires whatever is left.
Once clip is empty, player must spend a turn to reload a gun or use different weapon.
Damage is not reduced if fewer bullets are fired than the minimum RoF. Even firing just one bullet still deals full calculated damage for that turn.
Weapons with high RoF can burn through special ammo types quickly. Be cautious when equipping expensive or limited ammunition.
Melee and temporary weapons do not have RoF stats.
Examples
Bushmaster Carbon 15 with RoF 2-28 and a clip size of 30:
- Turn 1: Fires 15 bullets (if available), leaving 15.
- Turn 2: Fires 4 bullets.
- Turn 3: Fires 10 bullets.
- Turn 4: Fires 1 bullet.
- Turn 5: Reload or use different weapon
9mm Uzi with RoF 15-25 and a clip size of 30:
- Turn 1: Fires 19 rounds.
- Turn 2: Fires remaining 11 rounds.
- Turn 3: Reload or use different weapon.
Mods
There are 3 types of mods that you can equip on your primary or secondary weapons, which allow you to increase your clip size or which give you an extra clip or reduce the amount of ammo that is fired:
- Extended Magazines - This is a mod which improves the size of your magazine by 20% or 30%
- Extra Magazines - This is a mod which gives you additional +1 or +2 magazines to use in a fight.
- Recoil Pad This is a mod which reduces the amount of bullets fired per turn by 25%.
Ammo Conservation
Completing following education modules allow you to gain a 5% bonus to ammo conservation with Discrete Mathematics (MTH2310) and gain a 20% bonus to ammo conservation with Bachelor Of Mathematics (MTH3330). Completing both gives 25% bonus to ammo conservation.
By combining the Recoil Pad (25%) with relevant education bonuses for ammo conservation (5% and 20%), you get a total of 50%. With the weapon bonus 'Conserve', which ranges from 25% to 49%, total ammo conservation can reach between 75% and 99%.
You can never shoot less than 1 bullet.
In case of 9mm Uzi, if total ammo conservation is 75% and minimum clip size is 15, then minimum bullets shot is 3.75. Torn applies stochastic rounding, where 75% time it will shoot 4 bullets and 25% times it will shoot 3 bullets averaging out 3.75 bullets shot.
