A CAPTCHA is a tool used to differentiate between a real user and automated users such as bots.
Regular CAPTCHA
In your daily Torn life, you may have to pass a CAPTCHA before using the Gym, when Traveling, or when attempting Crimes to name a few examples.
You can choose between three different options:
- Torn image CAPTCHA - where you will need to select what number is being displayed in the image.
- Torn text CAPTCHA - where you will need to select the word that most closely fits the answer to a question posed.
- reCAPTCHA - where you will have to click an "I am not a robot" checkbox.
Flagged for additional scrutiny
As of 29/04/21 your account may have been flagged for deeper scrutiny, as a result of suspicious or unusual activity, meaning you will have to pass additional CAPTCHAs during your regular gameplay.
FAQs
- Why am I required to do this?
You are one of a small percentage of active players currently flagged for unusual or suspicious activity. This means for the time being, your account will be under additional scrutiny and you'll need to complete CAPTCHAs like this on a regular basis.
- How long will this last for?
On the first occurrence this period generally lasts for between three and ten days. If irregular activity continues to be observed from your account, it may persist indefinitely and your account will be manually reviewed for any rule violations.
- What did I do to cause this?
We monitor players and their sessions for any unusual or suspicious markers that make them outliers when compared to others in Torn. We're not able to disclose exactly what caused your account to be flagged, but your account's activity has appeared unusual enough to become a concern for us.
- How can I avoid being flagged in the future?
To avoid being flagged again in the future or potentially losing your account, please ensure that you're not using any 3rd party tools, scripts, extensions, applications, refreshers, macros, bots or any other kind of software that goes against our Scripting rules.
- Why are you doing this?
Ensuring a fair and equal environment for all of our players is of significant concern to us. Everyone needs to be on an even playing field and we have no tolerance for any kind of cheating. If we detect any unusual activity that may possibly be exploitative, it's our duty to our playerbase to take action against it.
- But I haven't done anything wrong?
We sincerely apologise if you believe you have been wrongly flagged, we understand that being hindered due to a 'false positive' can be an upsetting and frustrating experience. Unfortunately this system is a necessary evil in order to ensure Torn remains fair and equal for all. We cannot be 100% accurate all of the time, and unusual activity that is legitimate may occasionally flag accounts. We're frequently reviewing the system and making constant iterations to improve its accuracy.
